Viterbo Soccer School of Excellence
About Us

The Viterbo School of Excellence has been created by Viterbo Men’s Soccer coaches Andy Lee and Kevin Brennan based on the academy systems used by professional clubs throughout the world and particularly in Europe.

We believe that children do not spend enough time training. They may play plenty of games, but they do not spend enough time working on their skills, nor do they play enough outside their regular seasons. While we agree that it is good to play for clubs or school teams, all too often the coaching for those teams is based around games instead of developing individuals. We have a full syllabus for children from 6 years old to 18 years old where an emphasis on spending more time working with the ball and developing good habits is a crucial part of the work we do.

Academy Sessions: Weekly sessions will run throughout the year in various locations. Different sections will be based on age and ability, with advanced courses taking place on the Viterbo University campus. The emphasis is on developing each player’s ability on the ball, with the majority of the session devoted to individual technique followed by conditioned games.

Camps: Various camps will be offered throughout the year with the majority taking place over the summer. These will again be broken down by age and ability so that all players receive appropriate coaching. The camps will feature individual technique work and game-like practices. In addition to the general soccer camps, we also run goalkeeping camps and shooting camps.

Futsal: We run a handful of Futsal courses throughout the year and while we do not focus necessarily on the game of Futsal we use the ball and training methods as a way to develop close control, quick feet, passing and dribbling skills. Futsal is a variation on the South American game of Futebol de Salao which is played with a size 2 heavy ball with approximately 10% bounce. Futsal is played with a size 4 ball with around a 25% bounce.

Mini-Soccer: Mini-Soccer is an excellent introduction to the game for young children (5 and 6 year olds). It is played on small fields with mini goals and no goalkeepers, where children learn the basic skills and rules of the game.
